SGM Sarawak Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Kosen-rufu Movement

SGM Holds Junior Division Camps

A one-day Peace Camp was organised by the SGM Johor Junior Division on October 27, 2011. The camp strove to strengthen the awareness among the participants of their commonalities and shared destiny as human beings. On November 4, 2011, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) made a donation of RM50,000 to the Royal Thai Embassy in Malaysia in support of relief efforts. SGM participates in Perlis Charity Bazaar to Help Thailand Flood Victims

On November 13, 2011, SGM members participated in a charity bazaar to raise funds for relief efforts for the recent devastating floods in Thailand. The bazaar was held in a fishing village in Kuala Perlis. The money raised from the bazaar was later given to Sin Chew Jit Poh to be channelled to the Thailand flood relief efforts. The bazaar raised a total of RM30,000, of which RM2,164 was raised by the SGM members.

SGM Selangor Participates in "10 Hour Famine Event"

On November 26, 2011, the "10 Hour Famine Event" was held by the students of Advanced Learning Centre (ALC) College at SJK Chung Hua (Girls' School), Klang, Selangor. This event was organised with the aim to raise the community's awareness on the issue of hunger around the world and to cultivate a sense of appreciation for what we have. November 18, 2011 marked the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai. From November 19 to 20, 2011, key leaders from all SGM state branches and SGM national leaders gathered at the SGM Culture Centre, Cheras to commemorate this day and to make earnest planning for SGM's advancement towards the year 2030.

SGM Amala Celebrates 22nd Anniversary

The 22nd anniversary of the SGM Amala Group was celebrated by SGM Amala Group members of Kuala Lumpur Regions 1 and 3 on November 27, 2011 at the SGM Kuala Lumpur (Region 1) centre in Selayang, Selangor.

The event opened with an Indian fusion dance by the Junior Division members within the Amala Group followed by SGM General Director Choo Kong Fei's congratulatory message and SGI President Ikeda's message. The Amala Group's victory report was presented to the audience, showing the growth of the members in carrying out discussion meetings, home-visits, study meetings and sharing Buddhism in 2011.

SGM Selangor Receives Award for Community Efforts

SGM Selangor was awarded the Klang Municipal Council's "Prihatin 2011" award for its outstanding contribution to the welfare of the state. The ceremony, which was held at Premiere Hotel, Klang, was hosted by the Menteri Besar of Selangor YAB Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim. 15,000 Participate in Run For Peace in Three States

On October 2, 2011, SGM Selangor, SGM Penang and SGM Johor simultaneously organised the 2011 "Run for Peace" in their respective states, attracting a total of some 15,000 participants. SGM Selangor first launched this event in 2005 and this is the fourth time they have organised it. The increase in participants from the initial 2,000 in 2005 to the 8,300 this year shows increased support for this event in Selangor. Furthermore, the number of youth runners was a great encouragement and a strong indication that the people are supportive of peace.
