More than 1500 people attended the “Mid-Autumn Friendship Cultural Festival” at the Jenjarom Chinese Primary School, on September 27, 2008. The community based cultural event was organised by SGM Selangor to promote better understanding of the peace ideals of the organisation to non-members.
Around 400 members of SGM Selangor, mainly the youth, took around four months to prepare for the event. The show comprised of children’s performance, dance, martial arts and gymnastics formation.
The show received commendation from the guests. The Jenjarom New Village Head, Mr Chen Zhen Xing, remarked that he enjoyed the wonderful performance by SGM members, adding that he would continue to support such meaningful and healthy activities in his area.
In conjunction with the event, the exhibition “President Ikeda – In Pursuit of Peace” and President Ikeda’s children animation series were shown to visitors, in order to promote better understanding of the peace philosophy of President Ikeda.
A similar Mooncake Festival Friendship and Culture Evening was also held on October 4, 2008 at the SGM Selangor Culture Centre, Klang. State assemblyman Dr Xavier Jayakumar was the guest of honour. Other guests include representative from the Klang Municipal Council and the local residents association. Assemblyman Xavier praised SGM for the wonderful cultural show, and stated that the strength and energy displayed by the youth in the show is an important force in building the nation.
