In order to promote cultural exchanges with local calligraphers, the Peking University Calligraphy Research Institute had organized a calligraphy exhibition at the Wisma Kebudayaan SGM from July 11 - 14, 2008 which officiated by Y.B. Teng Boon Soon, Deputy Minister of Unity, Culture Arts and Heritage. The exhibition displayed seventy pieces of the students’ and ten pieces of the professors’ superb and exquisite artworks testifying to the Centre’s ideal in nurturing capable leaders who specialize in history, fine arts history, aesthetic theory, calligraphic art criticism and creation.
Many types of calligraphy were displayed for the viewers’ pleasure. They include the clerical, standard, running and cursive styles in various forms and layouts. Some were in couplet form measuring more than ten feet while others were written in the shape of Chinese fans. Among the rich diversity, one could also be moved by some emotive cursive styles besides being awed by some beautifully neat and controlled writing.

Calligraphy exchange |
The Peking University Calligraphy Research Centre was formed in November 2003. This confirms that the University has included the art of calligraphy into their educational system. Its extensive resources on the thoughts of culture are imbued with contemporary calligraphy, which is undeniably contributing to the development of eastern contemporary calligraphy.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a art talk on “The Development and Prospect of the Art of Calligraphy in China” was held after the opening ceremony by Prof. Wang Yue Chuan, Deputy Director of Peking University Calligraphy Research Centre.
