Norwegian Contemporary Glass
and Ceramics Exhibition

For the first time glass artworks were showcased at the Wisma Kebudayaan SGM. Along with ceramics, the exhibition was co-organised with The Royal Norwegian Embassy and was held from February 15 to March 1, 2009. These contemporary works by 16 of Norway’s most respected and innovative artists have also been exhibited in New York, Tokyo, Beijing, Santiago, Sydney and Helsinki.

Ever since 1741, Norway has been producing high quality wine glasses, goblets and crystal chandeliers for practical uses. With further development in the 1970s, contemporary artists have given new approaches to glass and ceramic making, imbuing their works with originality, diversity and vitality. While designing beautiful glassware for everyday use, they also give free rein to their love of form and colour in creating their own artworks in their distinctive characteristic styles. This exhibition focused on figuration – the creation of both three-dimensional figures and a figurative idiom on a flat surface.

Held for the second time in Kuala Lumpur, the exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of The Royal Norwegian Embassy, HE Arild Braastad. Apart from introducing these artists, the ambassador hoped the exhibition would strengthen the bond between Norway and Malaysia.
