Malam Mesra Muhibah in Johor Jaya

On August 16 and 17, 2008, more than 4,000 people from Johor Jaya and the neighbouring areas attended the ‘Malam Mesra Muhibah’ cultural night at the Johor Jaya Community Hall. The show was organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Johor in conjunction with the nation’s 51st Merdeka celebration.

Johor Jaya State assemblyman Tan Cher Puk, was the guest of honour of the event on the evening. On the same night, SGM Johor presented donations totalling RM45,000 to 19 educational and charitable organisations.

Around 750 SGM Johor members were involved in this event, as performers and support group behind the scenes. The cultural programme highlighted Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity. Traditional dances of the major ethnic groups were performed along with other captivating performances such as modern dance, the Chinese orchestra, choir, children’s dance and the trademark SGM “gymnastics” performance. SGM also invited guest performers – the youth group from Batu Pahat, Puspanesam Charity Organisation, Ulu Tiram and Siva Shangkri Baratha dance group.
