SGM Participate in 51st National Day
Parades and Celebrations

Perak
Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) members in various state branches participated in the nation’s 51st National Day parades and elebrations.

Perak: 53 SGM Perak youth members who participated in the march-past, were awarded winners of the march-past in the “Private companies and Voluntary organisations category.” SGM Perak Chairman Lai Soo Ha received the award from Perak Regent Raja Nazrin Shah.

Terengganu: In Kemanan, 35 SGM Terengganu members took part in the parade.

Pahang: SGM Pahang sent 51 representatives for the national day parade at the Kuantan Municipal Field. Meanwhile in Bentong, the youth and children of SGM Pahang put up a dance entitled “Tarian Pelanduk” (Mouse-deer dance) in the Bentong district celebration, while another 30 members were involved in the parade.
 
Penang

Penang: A total of 110 SGM Penang members took part in the parade.

Melaka: SGM Melaka were represented by 45 youth members in the Merdeka celebration.

Negeri Sembilan: SGM Negeri Sembilan’s dance group were part of a 300-strong multi-racial dance performance.

In addition to the August 31 events, three SGM state branches - Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan were also invited by their state governments to perform at the Ambang Merdeka (Eve of Merdeka) celebrations on August 30, 2008. SGM Perak were invited to perform a traditional Chinese dance at the Stadium Indera Mulia, Ipoh. Meanwhile, in Seremban, twenty of SGM Negeri Sembilan’s youth put up a combined performance of calisthenics and multi-racial martial arts movements. Representatives of SGM Selangor’s martial arts group were part of the welcoming drums performance consisting of drums from different cultural groups.
