The annual exhibition of the Klang Artists Association was jointly organised by the SGM Selangor and the association on November 1, 2008. The Exco member of Selangor State Government, Mr Teng Chang Khim was as the guest of honour for the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Teng advised the people not to be too materialistic, but should find time to involve themselves in cultural activities and promote the arts.
Johnny Ng, SGM Selangor Chairman said that fostering and promoting culture and arts is an important tool in building peace. It is through the arts that we can return to the realm of humanism, which, if neglected can lead to violence and social disorder.
There were 31 members of the association taking part in the exhibition, with 62 pieces of artwork, including oil paintings, water colours, calligraphy, ink work, waxed paintings, metal-pictorials and mixed media presentations. The association also produced a pictorial book to commemorate the occasion.
In conjunction with the art exhibition, the organisers also held four discussions on art, covering the history of the association, the feeling of beauty, relationship between man and culture and nature painting etc. It was done with the idea of helping the general public to understand and appreciate art.
The exhibition was held at the SGM Selangor Culture Centre until November11 and attracted more than 700 people.
