Thirty imams from China visited SGM Perak Culture Centre, Ipoh for a goodwill exchange with the representatives of SGM Perak on October 8, 2008. The visit was coordinated and led by the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA) Ipoh branch chairman Dato’ Dr Fadzli Cheah Abdullah. SGM Perak Chairman Lai Soo Ha and 50 other members welcomed the delegation. A similar exchange between the Chinese imams and SGM Perak was also held one year ago.
During the exchange, Chief Imam Isa, from the Chinese delegation, gave a concise introduction on the teachings of Islam, and talked about the shared values between Islam and Buddhism. This was followed by presentations by SGM Perak representatives on the history and teaching of Nichiren Buddhism, and the philosophy of SGI.
The exchange helped to build a bridge of understanding among the participants of the two faiths – an important step towards peaceful co-existence in a multi-faith world.
