On January 27, 2008 SGM Kuala Lumpur organised a lecture on “Developing the individual potential of young children” at the SGM Culture Centre, Cheras. The event attracted about 400 parents and a number of early childhood educators and workers.

The speaker was Xu Meilin, the director of Education Research Centre of Zhou Yang Region in Beijing. She has been involved in early childhood education for about 20 years. The moderator was Associate Prof Lee Kok Kheng, a member of the Tadika Seri Soka’s Board of Directors.

Ms Xu posed three questions for the listeners to ponder: 1) Why should we develop individual potential of children? 2) What are individual potential and its characteristics? and 3) How best to develop individual potential of children? Using various examples, Xu said that parents should help expand their children to develop their potential to the full. By doing so, parents will help their children to achieve success and happiness in their future.
