The Delima Dance Troupe, which performed at WKSGM in September 2006, was back here on January 9, 2008 with another performance entitled “Indonesia Authentic Night.” Consisting of 29 teen members, the troupe was on a touring performance programme to Australia, Malaysia and Singapore.
For one and the half hours, the delightful young ladies, all of them school-going children, performed dances originating from different eras and different provinces in Indonesia. While maintaining the traditional spirit, the troupe had infused the dances with new creativity, fresh vigour and youthful fervour, giving a new dimension to the traditional dances through their rhythmic steps and elegant dance postures with dainty movements. The dances included dances to celebrate independence, weddings, culture, joy, happiness and the installations of rulers in ancient times. Some dances told stories of a young and beautiful princess, how a dancer yearned for freedom and how dancers performed to the dynamic rhythm of the world. With such an array of wonderful performances, alluring costumes and talented performers, it certainly made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
