“The Art of Flowers – June Yap Solo Exhibition”

Wisma Kebudayaan SGM is hosting a flower arrangement exhibition for the first time ever. The floral arrangements on display are the artistic creations of June Yap, a lady of many talents. In addition to the flowers, artworks by the artist are also displayed alongside her flower arrangements – each one of them abundant with joy, celebration, beauty and, above all, her love for nature.

In his speech during the opening of the exhibition on January 4, 2009, Selangor State assemblyman Wong Koon Mun said that June’s artworks possess extensive practical and aesthetic values, coupled with her feelings, adding that her works have “external beauty as well as rich in the artist’s thoughts. State assemblyman Wong represented Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, the Wanita MCA National Chairman for the opening of the exhibition.

Merging “recycled materials” such as paper rolls, dried tree stems, dried plants, dried fruits, artificial flowers and frames into her works, they express a unique and bold mixture of the east, west and Malaysian cultures. Continuing in the same noble spirit as her past seven charity exhibitions, all proceeds from the sales of the artworks will be channeled towards the SGM Culture and Education Fund and her alma mater, Klang Pin Hwa High School’s Education Fund. June Yap’s exhibition will end on January 11, 2009.
