Talk on "Memory Problems, Alzheimer’s Dementia and Prevention" at SGM Penang

On July 16, 2011, geriatrician Dr Yau Weng Keong from the SGM Beacon Group gave a talk on "Memory Problems, Alzheimer’s Dementia and Prevention" at the SGM Penang Culture Centre. The talk was attended by about 150 participants consisting of SGM members and their friends.

Dr Yau said that as people age, it is unavoidable that they encounter various illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease and other related illnesses. He also said that aging and facing sicknesses are part of the four sufferings expounded in Buddhism.

Dr Yau also gave valuable tips on how best to manage healthcare as we age and the importance of good communication in maintaining relationships. He mentioned that regular exercises, a healthy lifestyle and diet could go a long way towards reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other illnesses. In order to age gracefully, it is important to adopt an active lifestyle, physically, mentally and socially. The participants were also advised to have a positive outlook on life.
