SGM Donates to Malaysian Red Crescent Society In Aid of Myanmar Earthquake Victims
On March 25, 2011, a severe earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale struck north-east Myanmar, causing a major disaster that claimed more than 100 lives. Based on the spirit of Buddhist compassion, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) donated RM 90,000 collected from among its members nationwide to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) in aid of the Myanmar earthquake victims. The event was held at the Malaysian Red Crescent Society headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on June 9, 2011.
Katherine Chui, SGM Women Division vice-leader, representing SGM, presented the cheque to YBhg Datuk Dr Noordin b. Abd Razak, National Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of Malaysian Red Crescent Society. The donation would be utilised for re-habitation programmes in Myanmar. The presentation was witnessed by Chia Kok Peng from SGM Public Relations Department and Encik Muhamad Shamsul b. Ibrahim, Communications Officer from MRCS.
