On June 4 and 5, SGM Galactic Future Group (GFG) held a training camp at the SGM Culture Centre. A total of 53 High School members and 30 High School Division facilitators attended the camp. This group comprises of specially selected High School Division members and its name was given by SGI President Ikeda in 1995.
Themed "My Mentor in My Heart", the camp was divided into three sub-themes, "Myself", "My Mentor" and "My Future". The participants were divided into groups to discuss and exchange views on the sub-themes.
The participants were given know themselves better, especially their weaker aspects. Then, Junior Division Leader Foo Keh Chong shared his views on President Ikeda’s "Youth and the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin" consisting of the themes "Courage", "Struggling Together with Others" and "Enjoying Together with Others" in order to show how compassion and courage can build values in life.
The second part was based on the "Building Bridges" chapter of The New Human Revolution, describing President Ikeda’s visit to the Soviet Union during the East-West Cold War period and how his sincere dialogue moved people and achieved mutual understanding.
The "My Future" sub-theme focused on exploring the talents of the students in achieving future victories. Young Women Division Leader Lim Tou Jing studied the Gosho "The Dragon Gate" with the members, stressing on the part which says, "My wish is that all my disciples make a great vow." (WND-1, p.1003) She called on all members to pledge their support for our mentor in carrying out kosen-rufu.
Lim Tou Jing also said, "One who embraces the path of oneness of mentor and disciple is truly a genuine disciple; this is also the highest way of life!"
SGM Johor also held a training camp for High School Division members on May 28 and 29 at its regional culture centre in Chaah (near Segamat). The theme for the training session was "Young Phoenixes, Soar High!" and their activities were guided by the adage, "Make the mentor’s heart ours and realise the successor’s mission."
Studying the history of human rights activist Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr and the "Young Phoenixes " chapter of The New Human Revolution, the members learned how to strengthen themselves to realise their dreams by having confidence and courage in facing various challenges and problems. They resolved to follow the mentor whole-heartedly in order to be his worthy successors.
