SGM Holds the "Seeds of Hope" Exhibition in Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Penang

Perak

In March 2011, the "Seeds of Hope" touring exhibition was held simultaneously in Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, attracting 3,664 visitors, raising the awareness of environmental protection in society.

From March 4 to 6, 2011, the "Seeds of Hope" exhibition was held at the SGM Perak Culture Centre. On hand to officiate the exhibition on March 5, 2011 was the Director of Perak State Education Department, Yang Bahagia Tuan Mohd Rauhi bin Mohd Isa.

In his speech, YB Tuan Mohd Rauhi mentioned that the "Seeds of Hope" exhibition has conveyed excellent values to students and the Perak State Education Department would do its best to cooperate with SGM and promote the exhibition in order to benefit more people. Tuan Mohd Rauhi later conducted a tree planting ceremony, urging the people to love the environment.

The representative from SGM Perak, Teh Qwee Hwa, in her speech mentioned that the "Seeds of Hope" exhibition has been held at 27 countries around the world to an audience of about 1.5 million visitors. Madam Teh further mentioned that in 2010, SGM Perak has held this exhibition at the various schools and universities in the state to over 4,000 teachers and students.

Perak

On March 7 and 8, 2011, SGM Negeri Sembilan and the Counselling Society of SMK Bukit Mewah, Seremban, held the "Seeds of Hope" exhibition at the canteen of the school. This exhibition was viewed by 2,420 teachers and students.

The Headmaster of SMK Bukt Mewah, Mr Wong Kam Piew, in his speech, mentioned that it was rare to be able to view the exhibition in Negeri Sembilan. He hoped that from students would be able to learn about the importance of "Learning", "Reflecting" and "Empowering" to enhance the awareness of environmental protection, treasure Earth and enable Earth to continue to develop.

Thirty-nine student volunteers took up the task as volunteer tour exhibition guides. The Chairman of SGM Negeri Sembilan, Mr Leong Chee Jian, quoted from Mahatma Gandhi - "You may never know what results come of your action, but if you do nothing there will be no result" - to encourage the students to thoroughly transform themselves, manifest individual potential, overcome the feeling of powerlessness, promote environmental protection activities and build a better future. SGM Negeri Sembilan also donated books to the library of SMK Bukit Mewah.

Negeri Sembilan

The exhibition was also held in conjunction with the visit of Tuan Haji Jamali bin Salam, Deputy Director of Negeri Sembilan State Education Department, to the school. After viewing the exhibition, he lauded the content and the significance of the exhibition.

Visitors to the exhibition also left their expressions in pieces of leaf-shaped paper, expressing their determination to protect Earth. One of them writes: "The Earth is originally so beautiful; now it is facing a crisis. As part of it, we must start to cherish it from this moment and here.

Penang

In Penang, the "Seeds of Hope" exhibition was held at the LOHAS Expo 2011 from March 25-27, 2011. The LOHAS Expo was organised by the 1Humanity Team, a voluntary NGO, and co-sponsored by Aident Corporation Sdn Bhd. The LOHAS Expo was held at the factory of company at Bukit Mertajam, Penang. All profits proceeds from this expo will be donated to charity organisation and schools. The expo was officially launched by YB Phee Boon Poh, Penang State Executive Councilor on March 26, 2011.

The 3-days exhibition was viewed by more than 1044 visitors, many of whom came from all over Penang, ranging from working professionals to kindergarten children. A teacher from Kedah mentioned that the exhibition was an excellent tool to educate and build awareness on the importance of interconnection between human being and environment, taking the right actions to respect and care for the environment in our daily lives.

Also screened at the exhibition was the award-winning film, A Quiet Revolution. Over thirty SGM members had volunteered to be exhibition guides.
