SGM Members Participate in Lunar New Year Celebrations

During the Lunar New Year festivities, SGM members in various states participated in local celebrations by showcasing culture performances.
Under the theme of “Welcoming the Year of the Rabbit in the Spirit of 1Malaysia” SGM Perak members performed a Chinese traditional dance at Stadium Indera Mulia, Ipoh. Organised by the Perak state government, the event was opened by HRH Sultan of Perak, Raja Azlan Shah on February 4, 2011 and attended by HRH Tuanku Bainun, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and his consort. Also in attendance was Perak Menteri Besar Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Speaker of the Perak State Assembly, Y.B. Dato' R. Ganesan, and Perak State Executive Councillor Y.B. Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon.
Other performances on display included 24-festival Chinese drums, Chinese dances, magic shows and multicultural dances. Chai Fong Ying, the taijiquan gold medallist at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games put up a wushu performance. Well-known singer-songwriter Gary Chaw also performed for the audience.
On February 18, 2011, joyous in the festive spirit of new year, SGM Johor celebrated by performing “1Malaysia” dances which showcased the harmony and peace treasured by Malaysian people. The event, held at Dataran Ledang in Tangkak, Johor, was co-organised by the steering committee of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Tangkak branch (part of the BN Ledang division), the Chinese community of Ledang and others. Johor Menteri Besar Y.A.B. Dato’ Abdul Ghani Othman was present to officiate the opening ceremony.
Guests included Ledang Member of Parliament Y.B. Ir. Haji Hamin bin Samuri; Tangkak State Assemblyman Y.B. Goh Tee Tee; Gambir State Assemblyman Y.B. M. Asojan; Bukit Serampang State Assemblyman Y.B. Tahir bin Mohd Taat and Ledang District Officer Tuan Haji Amran A. Rahman. Various performances were showcased, including dragon and lion dances, 24-festival Chinese drums, Chinese traditional music, songs and acrobatics, contributing to a joyful and lively atmosphere.
