"Seeds of Hope" Exhibition at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

The students of the counselling centre of the Rahman Putra Residential College of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and SGM Johor jointly organised the “Seeds of Hope” exhibition at the Dewan Sultan Iskandar of UTM from January 16 to 18, 2011. The exhibition was viewed by over 2,500 people, including students from 20 primary and secondary schools near UTM.

The exhibition was officially opened by the head of UTM’s counselling centre and career development unit, Assoc Prof Dr Mohamed Sharif bin Mustafa on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Tajudin bin Hj Md Ninggal.

In his speech, Assoc Prof Mohamed Sharif pointed out that in tackling environmental issues, the government as well as the public must bear responsibility. He commended SGM for its contributions in peace, culture and education.

SGM Johor branch chairman Tan Kiang Howe stressed that only through one’s inner change can problems of the environment and human relations be solved. He expressed his hope that this exhibition could be a catalyst towards that end. He quoted SGI President Ikeda in saying that a great human revolution in a single person can spark a change in society and the whole world.

Students from various cultural backgrounds volunteered as exhibition guides, including 80 international students from seven countries.
