The Seeds of Change Exhibition at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia

On October 17 and 18, 2010, SGM Johor held “The Seeds of Change” exhibition at the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UHTM) in Batu Pahat, Johor. Nearly 1,800 students viewed it.


The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UHTM, Prof Dr Abdul Aziz bin Dato’ Abdul Samad represented the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dato' Dr. Mohd. Noh bin Dalimin to declare the exhibition open. In his speech, Prof Dr Abdul Aziz pointed out that global warming had affected coastlines, including that of Johor. Within a year, one kilometre of the Johor coastline had eroded.

Prof Dr Abdul Aziz stated that UHTM has been actively researching on environmental protection and had carried out various programs to heighten the viewers’ awareness on the subject. He commended SGM in carrying activities such as organising “The Seeds of Change” exhibition and seminar in order to enhance the society’s knowledge on protecting the environment.


SGM Johor representative Dr Chong Chin Chen in his speech stressed that “The Seeds of Change” exhibition would not only enhance the citizens’ knowledge about environmental protection but also make them aware of the causes of environmental destruction. He added that it was the responsibility of everybody to take care of the environment in order to save the earth from total destruction.

An exhibition of paper flower pots and environmental-friendly containers was also held. The guests were invited to write down their comments about the exhibition on pieces of leaf-shaped paper which were hung on the “Tree of Environmental Protection”. Prof Dr Abdul Aziz also participated in the paper-folding activity.
