Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

Many Chinese take the opportunity to hold family reunion gatherings at home in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival. Hoping to create such a warm environment for its members, their family members, soka friends and neighbours, SGM Pahang held such a reunion at the SGM Pahang Culture Centre on September 18, 2010, attracting about 500 people.

Various events such as chess competition, lantern making competition, lantern riddles, lantern walk and tea appreciation were organised. Members also brought moon cakes to share with others followed by a storytelling session regarding the origin of this celebration. Next, a live band performance by several youth members and poem-recitation by the junior group took place. There were also a lucky draw, karaoke session and a line dance performance by the women division members.

The next day, upon invitation from the Gabungan Persatuan-Persatuan Tionghua Daerah Kuantan, about 10 young women division members from the Chinese Dance Group performed at the East Coast Mall, Kuantan, Pahang in conjunction with the mid-autumn celebration. There were also various dances performed by various schools and associations. Their wonderful dance managed to convey the breadth and depth of true Chinese culture, receiving a big applause from the audience in return.

In Selangor, the members of SGM Selangor Culture group also presented a Chinese traditional drum performance on September 4, 2010 at a mid-autumn festival celebration organised by the Chinese Language Society of Convent High School, Klang.

Members of the SGM Selangor Hui Yao Dragon Dance Troupe also performed the Moonlight Dragon Dance at the biggest-ever community event organised by the Banting Hong Teck Lion Dance Association on September 25, 2010. They also participated in the longest local street parade.
