SGM Participates in the 53rd National Day Celebrations

On the windy and bright morning of August 31, 2010 at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil, a total of 600 SGM youth were getting ready to perform in the 53rd National Day celebration. As this year’s National Day celebration fell on the month of Ramadan, the celebration was held for the first time indoors at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

Under the theme “1Malaysia Generates Transformation”, the show was divided into eight segments which incorporated the elements of the 1Malaysia concept as well as the values of integrity and patriotism. With the support of a surround sound system and specially-designed lighting effects, this year’s celebration gave spectators a breath of fresh air to the usual outdoor routine. Among those involved in the performances are the armed forces, police personnel and non-governmental organisations.

The performances were presented before the Yang DiPertuan Agong and the Permaisuri Agong, Prime Minister and members of the cabinet, foreign dignitaries and guests from various countries including the United Kingdom, Finland and Austria.

Dressed up in fresh white costumes decorated with yellow, red and blue stripes, SGM youth made an impactful entrance during the “New Economy Model” segment. With bright and cheerful smiles like the sun and movements filled with life force, the audience had their hands together throughout the whole show. The climax of SGM’s performance was the formation of a four-level human tower – which caused the entire stadium to erupt in cheers and thunderous applause.

The SGM youth members have been preparing for the performance since June, and attended weekly practice sessions at SGM Culture Centre, Cheras prior to the final few rehearsals at the stadium.

Other than Kuala Lumpur, SGM members in Penang, Pahang and Melaka also participated in their state-level National Day parade and celebrations.
