Multi Religious Group Prayer

Saturday, 28th August 2010, more than 300 SGM-Perak members convened at the Perak State Secretariat Building’s Banquet Hall to attend the Multi Religious Group Prayer. This event held for the second year was organised in conjunction with the 53rd Merdeka Day Celebration in collaboration with the Perak State Government. The Multi Religious Group who attended the event comprised of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Soka Gakkai Malaysia and Taoism.

This prayer event was attended by Perak Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Dato’ R. Ganeson, State Secretary Dato’ Dr. Abdul Rahman Hashim and Organising Chairman YB Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon who is also the State Exco Member for Non-Islamic Affairs.


The event started at 3.45pm with the singing of National Anthem followed by a speech by Organising Chairman, YB Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon. In his speech, Dato’ Dr. Mah remarked that patriotism and noble actions are ways of showing our love for the country. He also stated that we are blessed to live in our country which is free from religious and racial conflicts and hoped that we should continue to live in harmony.

Perak Menteri Besar, YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir, in his keynote address emphasized that all religions irrespective of Islam, Christianity or Buddhism teach that the heart matters most and that our love for humanity should transcend creed and colour. He also stressed that he will not tolerate those who raise racial sentiments and destroy sacred places and warned that stern action will be taken against them.

Following that, the multi religious group prayer began with each group performing their prayers. SGM (Perak) took the lead and recited the excerpt from ‘Expedient Means’ chapter and the verse section of the ‘Life Span’ chapter and the event ended after the performance of prayer by Taoist representatives.
