On June 30, 2010, a group of SGM Selangor student division members presented SGI President Ikeda’s 2010 Peace Proposal “Towards a New Era of Value Creation” to a crowd of more than 1,000 people at SGM Selangor Culture Centre, Klang.
For more than ten years, the SGM Selangor Student Division members have been studying and presenting the SGI President’s peace proposals. The purpose of the forum is to introduce President Ikeda’s peace proposals to SGM members and their friends. The annual presentation has become a significant event for the SGM Selangor Student Division. For this year’s presentation, ten students were involved.
In Peace Proposal 2010, President Ikeda calls for accelerated moves toward the realisation of a world without nuclear weapons. He also urges concrete steps toward generating meaningful employment opportunities in the current economic downturn and making investment in education for girls a priority development objective. The panel of speakers urged everyone to take actions towards realising peace. One of the most important steps is to employ the power of dialogue and engagement in our daily lives, as highlighted by President Ikeda in his proposal.
On that night, Selangor Renaissance Choir also performed John Lennon’s popular song “Imagine.” The audience left with a better understanding of President Ikeda’s insightful thoughts towards peace. One of the audience, Audrey Lim, 21, said, “The peace proposal presentation is an excellent way for us to be more aware of our world today and realise what we as youths should do.” Another guest, YK Chan, 62, praised the “Destruction of War” props created by the students at the entrance to the lecture hall, “It was very creative. The speakers also presented well.”
