Tadika Seri Soka Organises Course on Picture Book Storytelling

Tadika Seri Soka and Huiben Yulin co-organised a picture book storytelling course on March 16, 2010 at Tadika Seri Soka. This course is part of the kindergarten’s curriculum for teacher training. The speaker, Jerry Wu Guo Qiang is a well-known master of story-telling, and has been actively promoting parent-child storytelling and organising teachers training course.

That afternoon, Mr Wu introduced the participants to world of picture books. He began by explaining what are picture books, followed by the type of picture books available, the techniques of using picture books in storytelling, how to select picture books and the basic principles of storytelling. He also gave a basic curriculum for teachers to follow in picture book storytelling.

Mr Wu also demonstrated the art of storytelling using picture books by relating several short stories to the participants. A moving story, he said, relies on the voice and intonation of the storyteller, who can capture the hearts of the listeners and lead them into the world of the picture books. Finally, the participating teachers asked many questions in which Mr Wu responded with equal enthusiasm.

A total of 50 people attended the course. In addition to the kindergarten teachers, several volunteers and parents of TSS children were also present.
