SGM Selangor Co-organises Klang River Carnival

SGM Selangor was invited by the Selangor State Government to be a co-organiser of the Klang River Carnival 2010, an activity aimed at raising public awareness on protecting and cleaning up the heavily polluted Klang River.


SGM helped to co-organise a public run “Larian Bandar DiRaja” on March 13, 2010. HRH the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj flagged off the run at Taman Pengkalan Batu, Klang.

One of the highlights of the carnival was a pledge-signing ceremony by the people of Selangor to reaffirm their commitment towards protecting and treasuring the Klang River: “Cintai Sungai Klang, Bermula Daripada Kita.” (Loving the Klang River – Starts With Us) HRH the Sultan of Selangor led the signing of the pledge together with Menteri Besar Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and other Selangor Exco members. Thousands, including the participants of the run and members of the public signed the pledge. In conjunction with the carnival, SGM Selangor also put up the “Seeds of Change: Earth Charter and Human Potential” exhibition during the event.

During the carnival, the twirlers troupe of the SGM Fife-and-Drum Corps and Gymnastics Squad put up lively and dynamic performances which were well-received by the guests and audience.
