During the Lunar New Year, SGM branches in various states were invited to perform or participate in celebrations.
On February 20, 2010, SGM Selangor was invited to present cultural performances at the National Level Lunar New Year celebrations at the Pandamaran New Village in Klang, Selangor. The event was organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture and organised by the Klang branch of the Malaysian Chinese Association. It was attended by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Mohammed Najib Tun Razak, his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and other dignitaries. SGM Selangor was invited to present multiracial dances, the 24-drum performance and dragon dance. The event involved more than 150 SGM youth members. The performance by SGM Selangor youth not only added colours and joy to the New Year atmosphere but also attracted the attention of 30,000 spectators.

Two weeks earlier, on February 6 and 7, 2010, SGM Selangor was invited by the Klang Municipal Council to perform in “Karnival Gong Xi Fa Cai 2010” at Bayu Tinggi and Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang. SGM members presented several cultural items including lion dance, Chinese drums, moonlight dragon dance, Chinese dances and choirs. The theme of the evening revolved around multiracial friendship, understanding and peace.

Up north, SGM Perak was invited by the Perak State Government to present Chinese dance in a state-level celebration held at the Chenderiang New Village on February 21, 2010. This is the first time a state-level celebration is held outside of Ipoh. Among the distinguished guests present were HRH the Sultan of Perak, Raja Azlan Shah, HRH Tuanku Bainun; The Regent, HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and his consort and the Perak Menteri Besar, Dato Seri Dr Zambri bin Kadir.

SGM Sabah Coorganises Community Celebration
On February 20, 2010, SGM Sabah was invited to co-organise a celebration marking “Human Day,” a customary celebration among the Chinese community on the 7th day of the Lunar New Year in Labuan. SGM Sabah co-organised the event with various associations, organisations and community groups in Labuan. In conjunction with the event, an exhibition on Chinese calligraphy was also launched. The Chairman of the Labuan MCA, Tan Kwan Wei in his speech said that he hoped that Chinese calligraphy and art exhibition could be jointly held the following year in order to showcase Chinese culture.
