SGM Martial Art Troupe Participates in Lion Dance Competition

From November 20 to 22, 2009, the SGM Martial Art Troupe participated in the 14th Malaysia National Lion Dance Competition 2009 in Genting Highland. This was their first attempt to compete against 40 lion dance teams from throughout Malaysia.

Sixteen young men members were already in the highlands from as early as November 16 to train and acclimatise to the weather and environment. Some of them had to take leave from work for this purpose. The team’s coach, Lim Chia Fah, said, "Our goal is to start the ball rolling, get some exposure, and if possible, reach the top eight positions to qualify for the final round."

Although the group did not make it for the finals, they managed to secure a commendable 19th place in their overall standing. This will serve as a boost and encouragement for them to improve themselves and strive even further in the future. The important thing was that they have won over themselves despite facing various difficulties.

"The preparation was intensive," said San Yi Hao, the group’s person-in-charge. "But our morale and motivation was high. The members of this group will definitely grow and become better."
