Mexican Art Exhibition - "Latitudes In Transit"

Organised jointly by the Embassy of Mexico and SGM, “Latitudes in Transit” showcased fifteen artworks of ten contemporary Mexican women artists. Held at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM from November 1 to 8, 2009, the exhibition was officiated by His Excellency Jorge Alberto Lozoya, Ambassador of the Mexican Embassy.

"Latitudes in Transit" is an art project based upon the works of Betsabe Romero, Lorena Zozaya, Mónica Castillo, Irma Palacios, Paloma Torres, Maribel Portela, Perla Krauze, Alicia Paz, Magali Lara and Carla Rippey. Celebrating the free diverse expressions of womanhood and reflecting the time and space in which they live, the exhibition featured pieces, containing organic elements such as clay, metal, and earth, which reflect the traditionalism in their craft and technique while myths are also portrayed without prejudices, each piece an expression of how they, as women, see themselves through art. Each work on display has many tales to tell. For instance, Alicia Paz’s painting of a man’s face and lipsticks separated by blotches of paint has drawn forth numerous interpretations and emotions from viewers. It was thought as classicism against modernity or masculinity versus femininity, besides giving a feeling of the man looking into the mirror of a make-up table or a man looking through the window of a shop.
