Exhibition on Contemporary Chinese Ink Paintings & Calligraphy

SGM and the Cao Tang Men Eastern Arts Society Malaysia jointly organised an exhibition featuring Chen Chuan Xi, Cheah Thien Soong, Feng Jun Hu at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM from November 1 to 8, 2009. On hand to officiate the exhibition was Dr Hou Kok Chung, Deputy Minister of Higher Education. In his speech, Dr Hou mentioned that SGM has become an important art centre in the city, giving a much needed calm and respite to stressed-out city-dwellers whose lives were constantly moving about too quickly.

Complementing each other, sixty pieces of exquisite paintings and calligraphy were displayed. Though few in number, the quality and magnificence of the works made it more than worth-while. Cheah Thien Soong, a Malaysian renowned calligrapher and artist and President of Cao Tang Men Eastern Arts Society Malaysia fielded unique artworks that evoke profound philosophy while Chen Chuan Xi was a tutor for master students and author of over 40 books. The cursive calligraphy of Feng Jun Hu, Vice Director cum General Secretary of Guo Men Calligraphy and Painting Institution, was particularly intriguing and delightful. In conjunction with the exhibition, Chen Chuan Xi delivered an art lecture entitled “Chinese Paintings since 1949” after the opening ceremony.
