“From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit” Exhibition at New Era College

In an effort to promote greater awareness about the threat of nuclear weapons to peace and human security, New Era College and SGM jointly organised the exhibition “From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit” at the New Era College campus in Kajang, Selangor from October 14 to 17, 2009. The exhibition was declared open by New Era College Principal Dr Pua Eng Chong. SGM was represented by Head of Study Department, Tan Kok Leong, Head of Public Relations Department, Katherine Chui and Associate Editor of SGM Publications Department, Tan Set Nee.

In his speech, Principal Pua expressed his gratitude towards SGI President Ikeda, for his commitment and efforts towards creating a more peaceful world. He said, “Through this exhibition, we can see the destruction caused by violence, and the massive lost of human lives to war. We should try our best to communicate our desires for peace through various mediums – pictures and language – to get our message across to the people of the world. Only when we are able to let people all over the world understand the destruction caused by violence, respect human rights, embrace cultural diversity, respect life and the Earth, can a culture of peace be realised…Although creating a culture of peace is not something that can be achieved overnight, it is important that we continue to harbour hope and to continue such efforts generation after generation.”
