Exhibition of Renowned Contemporary Chinese Ink-painting Artist: Li Geng

Li Geng, the fifth son of the late Li Keran, was at the Wisma Kebudayaan SGM to hold an exhibition of his contemporary Chinese ink-paintings from October 11 to 18, 2009. Organised by SGM and Han’s Art Gallery, the exhibition was officiated by Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Member of Parliament Tanjong Malim on October 11, 2009.

Li Geng, fostered by his father, has also studied art in Japan and is currently a teaching professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts. Also widely known as the “Transparent Ink Poet" and “Ink Summoner” for his free and easy strokes, his works can be divided into four phases namely, realism and lyricism; expressionism, romanticism and abstract art; classicism and transcendentalism and, lastly, “Chenghuai” or a period in which he seeks for clarification of mind.

In his speech, Dato’ Seri Ong praised Li’s achievements and pointed out that these achievements were due to his work hard and unremitting efforts in his art, a positive way of life inspired by his father’s example. Ong also stressed the importance of art in our daily life and hoped Wisma Kebudayaan SGM would play a greater role in promoting culture and arts in the future.
