For the Chinese, the Mid-Autumn Festival is an occasion when many would return home for reunion gatherings. In conjunction with the festival, the Ministry of Tourism organised a "Mid-Autumn Evening" at the Central Market in Kuala Lumpur, attracting about 20,000 people including tourists.
The event was officially launched by the Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohamed Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak. His wife, Datin Sri Rosmah bt. Mansor was also present. Other distinguished guests were the Minister of Tourism, Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen and the Deputy Minister of Federal Territories, Dato’ M. Saravanan.
SGM was invited to participate in the event. The SGM Martial Arts Troupe presented the lion dance and drums performance. Together with other groups, they presented a fusion of different cultural performances, to depict the theme of "1Malaysia." Before the conclusion of the event, the Prime Minister and his wife joined others to carry lanterns around Central Market, reflecting the harmonious unity of the citizens and together advance towards a historical milestone for the country.
