Fifty-eight watercolour artworks by 21 Malaysian artists were displayed at an exhibition entitled "The Contemporary Malaysian Watercolorist Association Annual Exhibition 2009" at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM, Kuala Lumpur from September 13 to 20, 2009. Jointly organised by the association and SGM, the exhibition was opened by Member of Parliament Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan on September 13, 2009.
Formed in 1993, the Contemporary Malaysian Watercolorist Association has actively participated in the Asia Watercolorist Alliance, exhibiting in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and so on. True to the flavour and splendour of the country, the current exhibition displayed artworks ranging from Mt Kinabalu of Sabah to fishing village in West Malaysia, unique landscapes and portraits.
In his speech, Dato’ Seri Ong pointed out that the modern society is unhealthily looking for instant gratification at the expense of true substance. With the advance of modern technology, the younger generation, in particular, is resorting to shortcuts in the search for beauty. He was impressed by the patience of the artists in coming up with the quality artworks, saying that patience is absolutely necessary in any important undertakings.
