On July 11, 1951, two months after Josei Toda became the second President of Soka Gakkai, the Young Men Division (YMD) was formed. The young Daisaku Ikeda, who was then in his 20s, led a group of youth members to realise Toda’s dream of kosen-rufu, making the organisation as a source of strength in bringing happiness and peace to the world.

YMD members throughout the country observed the anniversary in July, reflecting the selfless spirit of the pioneers and looking forward to the future.
SGM YMD Leader Siew Choon Meng, in his congratulatory message, said that the present organisation of the SGM is a result of the selfless struggle of the past members. As such, the youth members should always "be grateful" and should continue to work hard in order not to let down the elders.
