The exhibition features portraits of the people of Southeast Asia, a collection which was inspired by Chia's visit to Sarawak in 2000. He decided then that he would develop the theme of cultural and ethic diversity for this exhibition. He then travelled and spent about 9 years in the countryside and the mountainous part of nine Southeast Asia countries including Sarawak in East Malaysia, Bali in Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines to capture the lifestyle of the Southeast Asia nation which portray the different tribal people. He even lived together with several remote mountain tribes for five years to observe and learn about their customs and culture. His artworks are in line with SGM's mission to promote human dignity.
'The Differing Faces of South East Asia' will continue its journey to SGM culture centres in Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, Penang, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur.
