May 3 "Soka Gakkai Day" Celebrated

May 3 – a significant day in the history of Soka Gakkai – was the day when President Toda and President Ikeda were respectively inaugurated as the second and third president of Soka Gakkai, in 1951 and 1960.

In the month of May, commemorative meetings to mark May 3 were held in each state, where leaders and members resolved to uphold the mentor-disciple relationship to carry out kosen-rufu for the sake of others' happiness.

On May 17, SGM representatives from throughout the country gathered at the SGM Culture Centre, Cheras to attend the "May 3 Commemorative and State Representatives Meeting". May 3 is also known as the Soka Gakkai Mothers' Day.

In his message, SGI President Ikeda, said that in these troubled times, we should embrace the belief that there is no better strategy than the Lotus Sutra. As such, they should not feel hopeless. He urged members to be harmonious, wise, mutually encourage and support one another based on the spirit of "many in body, one in mind," as we advance towards year 2010 – the Soka Gakkai's 80th anniversary and SGI's 35th anniversary.

SGM General Director Choo Kong Fei in his speech stressed that leaders should walk their talk and urged all members to use the "take action" in order to realise President Ikeda's expectation for Malaysia – "Number One the World Over – The Place of Victory – Malaysia."

Besides this, General Director Choo also has high expectations for the youth division. He hoped that the youth members would seek knowledge daily and learn about society's movements, trends, thinking and be able to transform knowledge into wisdom, and inherit the spirit of oneness of mentor-disciple.
