Following the success of the first “From One Earth” exhibition in conjunction with Earth Day in 2006, SGM again organised “From One Earth II” exhibition from April 18 to May 3, 2009 at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM.
With the theme “Water in Nature,” thirteen artists - Calvin Chua, Johan Marjonid, Kasbi Sarbini, Kelvin Chap, Pheh It Hao, Rasid Yusof, Shahril Awang, Shaparel Salleh, Shireen Lee, Simon Tan Siew Kuan, Tan Sik Yaw, Zaharuddin Sarbini and Zaim Durulaman - were invited to participate. A total of 68 works – mostly featuring the beauty and bounty of nature and its essential life-giving element, water - were selected and displayed, all in the spirit to spread the message of respecting and appreciating nature, living in harmony with Earth’s resources and preserving a healthy earth for future generations.
Opening the ceremony was Toh Puan Mahani Idris Daim who mentioned that such exhibitions are good reminders “that we all live on the same earth, share earth’s limited but precious resources and therefore, we have the mutual responsibility to preserve its well-being and ensure that our children will inherit this heritage”
In addition, a documentary film The 11th Hour was aired throughout the exhibition period. Produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film featured the state of the natural environment we are in and the related issues that we face.
