March 16 Commemorative Meeting

SGM representatives from all over Malaysia attended the "March 16 Kosen-Rufu Day" Commemorative Meeting on March 15, 2009 at SGM Culture Centre, Cheras.

At the same time, the meeting also commemorated President Ikeda's 248th academic honour – the honorary doctorate conferred by Open University Malaysia. In the coverage of the event in Seikyo Shinbun (the organ paper of Soka Gakkai), President Ikeda mentioned that the honour was due to everyone's sincere and earnest efforts. SGM General Director Choo Kong Fei urged everyone to continue to take sincere and earnest actions, to realise the motto given to Malaysia by President Ikeda during his visit here in 2000: "Number One the World Over, The Place of Victory, Malaysia!"

General Director Choo also said that in order to achieve victory, it is important to strive for kosen-rufu in the spirit of 'exerting millions of kalpas of effort in a single moment of life,' together with President Ikeda.

March 16 "Kosen-rufu Day" is a significant in the history of the organisation. On the same day in 1958, second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda, just weeks prior to his death, met with 6,000 Soka Gakkai youth and bequeathed to them his deeply held mission of creating lasting peace and individual happiness based on the humanistic life philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism. SGM youth division members in each state held commemorative March 16 meetings in high spirits, with keen awareness of their mission to advance kosen-rufu based on the spirit of mentor-disciple.
