Under the theme “Encouraging diversity in culture – Fostering peace and prosperity together” the festival was successfully held with the support of the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, the Ministry of Culture and Arts and the Universiti Malaysia Sabah, with the aim to develop the youths in the state, promote better understanding of its rich culture and gather charity to help the needy.

The celebration also attempted to build “bridges” of mutual respect and unity amongst peoples of diverse cultures, races and ethnicity such as Kadazandusun, Murut, Chinese, Indian, Bajau, Suluk and Malay. Apart from traditional dances, the festival also included modern dances and gymnastics which reflected the state’s energetic youthful culture. Young children also chipped in a performance to depict the varied and natural fauna and flora of Sabah or the “Land below the Wind”. Divided into four parts, the performance showcased Sabah’s cultural history, astonishing diversity of nature, multicultural peoples, peace and harmony.
