The multi-religion prayer with the theme "Unity in Diversity in 1 Malaysia" was organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism, at the Ipoh City Hall on September 19, 2009. The opening ceremony was conducted by State Exco Member, Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon and the closing ceremony by the Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. The prayers session was started by the Buddhist monks, followed by the Christians, SGM, Taos, Hindus and the Sikhs. This was followed by display of various ethnic cultural dances, fusing the solemn ceremony with cultural ambience.

Datuk Seri Dr Zambry in his speech, pointed out that religion should not be used as a tool for confrontation. In human relationship, people should try to find similarities rather than differences.

Promoting and praying for world peace is the core activity of SGM. In September last year, SGM Selangor also participated in a similar multi-religious prayer event. It is hoped that through such activities there would develop close understanding among the people of various religions to foster world peace.
