On December 9 and 10, 2006, hundreds of people were amazed at how material destined for the rubbish bins such as bottles, plastic containers or paper boxes could be transformed into beautiful vases, trays, flowers or jewellery boxes through creativity and caring hands.

The items were part of the ‘Trash to Treasure' recycled handicrafts exhibition held at SGM Culture Centre, Cheras. The artworks were made by the women bodies in Hulu Langat, SGM Women Division and Kawan group members (Japanese expatriates who are Soka Gakkai members). At the same time, 'Seeds of Change – The Earth Charter and Human Potential' exhibition was also held to convey to the viewers the message of 'a single person can change the world'.

Opening the charitable event was Puan Hajah Dr Nor Aini bte Haji Abdullah, the wife of Hulu Langat Member of Parliament Tuan Haji Markiman Kobiran. In her speech, she stressed on the need to be aware of recycling waste items at home and at school. She hoped that the authorities and all involved would combine efforts to make this noble effort a success into the future.
