The “Gandhi, King, Ikeda: Building a Legacy of Peace” exhibition was held at the library of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu from July 26-28, 2010. The exhibition was organised by SGM in collaboration with Chinese Representative Club in the university.

On July 25, Associate Prof Haji Zainal Ashirin bin Shahardin, the director of the university’s Student Affairs and Alumni Division and Dr Yeong Tik Sung, the adviser of the Chinese Representative Club jointly declared the exhibition open. Among the distinguished guests present at the opening were the President of the Terengganu Chinese Assembly Hall, Foo Che Wan and his wife. Around 200 students and members of the public were also present.

In his speech, Associate Prof Haji Zainal Ashirin reminded the audience that they should not take the prevailing peace in the country for granted, but must continuously attempt to raise awareness about peace. As such, he would support the students’ involvement in peace development activities.

The three-day exhibition attracted nearly 1000 students and members of public. A total of 31 students who were members of the Chinese Representative Club volunteered as narrators for the exhibition. In the process, these students deepened their understanding of the peace efforts of these three men, and also SGM’s effort in promoting peace, education and culture.
