Tadika Seri Soka Visits Organic Farm

24 Aug 2017

On August 24, 2017, 123 four-year-old students from Tadika Seri Soka (TSS) visited the Fireflies Organic Farm in Semenyih, Selangor. The children sang songs and watched movies while travelling to the farm.

Upon arriving, they were welcomed by the manager of the farm. At first, they petted the rabbits and fed them prepared vegetable. They also fed the chickens and geese. Some of the children were initially afraid of approaching the animals, but were able to overcome their fear and involved themselves in the activities.

They later caught earthworms, and later planted seeds in the soil and spread fertiliser to spur the growth of the plants. They were also given a short lecture on how plants grow, where they also learned how farmers toiled to till the soil.

Later, they made their way to to an eggplant and roselle farm through a country road. There, they planted vegetable seedlings and enjoyed roselle tea prepared by the farm staff.

The children also experienced the fun of picking vegetables and bringing them home to share them with their families. During lunch, they ate food cooked by the farmers using organic vegetables – a unique moment for them. They also learnt not to waste food, and thus finished all the food on their plates.

This outdoor activity was not only a wonderful memory for the children, where they got into contact with animals and vegetables, but also a class to learn about the efforts of farmers and not to waste food.
