SGM Promotes “Everything You Treasure” in Local Communities

12 Jul 2015

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which left behind a horrific legacy of the threat of annihilation by nuclear weapons. In order to create a citizen’s movement for the abolition of nuclear weapons, SGM will be holding the “Everything You Treasure: For a World Free from Nuclear Weapons” exhibition throughout the nation in August and September. This exhibition was jointly-created by the SGI and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).

Beginning June, SGM members have been actively promoting the exhibition to members of their local communities, including neighbours, friends and local schools. As of July 12, SGM Kuala Lumpur members have visited 283 primary and secondary schools, and spoke to close to 32,000 students on this peace exhibition.

The threat posed by nuclear weapons is not something found in a far-away land; it is something that all of us face, right here, right now. Only by bringing the number of nuclear weapons in the world down to zero can we ensure the continued survival of humanity and fulfil our dreams.
