Peace Lecture：Islam the Religion of Peace, Progress and ProsperityEvent Date: 29 Sep 2013 - 29 Sep 2013
SGI President Daisaku Ikeda once said, “It is an urgent necessity for all of us to learn more about Islam and to deepen the understanding that exists between our worlds, for ignorance can only lead to greater hatred and tension.” Interfaith initiatives are crucial to promote correct understanding between different religions and to increase acceptance of others. This is especially so as we live in a multi-racial and multi–religious society. For this talk, the speaker aims to elucidate that Islam, contrary to what many people believe, is a religion that promotes peace, progress and prosperity among all human beings. Numerous commandments contained in the Holy Book (Quran) and the Messenger’s Sayings (Hadith) in regards to tolerance, understanding, justice, hardwork and peaceful coexistence will be imparted in his talk. The basic fundamentals of Islam, especially the 4 important entities – God, Prophet, Holy Quran and Hadith will be explained. Anyone wishing to gain a proper understanding of the religion and its message of Peace, Progress and Prosperity will need to use one’s mental faculty and rationality in examining the holy verses and divine guidance. Islam therefore is a religion that demands its followers to make proper use of one’s mental faculty, and not a religion of blind assumption or faith. Islam clearly states that anyone who lives through a life of blind following is in a constant state of loss and will eventually end in self-destruction.
